Phasen: An exhibition from 18.08.02 to 10.09.02 presenting the results of a project realized between 2000 and 2001. "Phasen" tries to create a dialog between art and science at the site of research in the science location Adlershof. The project of an artistic decisive encounter between artists and scientists which has been realized between 2000 and 2001 reveals the problems of the convergence of these worlds. ... The exhibition presents the stragegies of a dialog ... "Phasen" versucht einen Dialog zwischen Kunst und Wissenschaft am Ort der Forschung, im Wissenschaftsstandort in Adlershof. Das zwischen 2000 und 2001 realisierte Projekt der künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung zwischen Künstlern und Wissenschaftlern offenbart die Schwierigkeiten bei der Annäherung dieser Welten. Obwohl die vormoderne Verbundenheit der Disziplinen unableugbar ist und Kunst als Wissenschaft weiterhin fasziniert, ist der Diskurs zwischen zeitgenössischer Kunst und aktueller Forschung von unüberbrückbar scheinenden Missverständnisse geprägt. Art + Science Conference (Bellagio Report and Conclusions ) The conference took place at the Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Study and Conference Center at Lake Como, Italy, in November 2001. It was a rare event, based on the proposition: “To bring together a group of artists and scientists to explore the creative process, examine the interface between art and science and establish a foundation for future cooperation and exchange in the 21st century.”

Mit dem Auge denken Huber, Jörg/ Heintz, Bettina (eds.): Mit dem Auge denken. Strategien der Sichtbarmachung in wissenschaftlichen und virtuellen Welten, Springer Verlag: Vienna/New York 2001. "Am Anfang dieses Buches steht die Feststellung einer Diskrepanz: Während sich die Öffentlichkeit am Beispiel der Genom-Entzifferung noch mit der Textstruktur der Natur beschäftigt und sich die Frage stellt, ob die Natur nicht doch als "Buch" zu begreifen ist, dessen Zeichen und Grammatik es zu entziffern gilt, scheint die Praxis der Naturwissenschaften eher nach kunsttheoretischer als nach sprachwissenschaftlicher Expertise zu verlangen. Die zunehmende Mit zahlreichen, meist fabirgen Abbildungen. "Piktoralisierung" der Naturwissenschaften wurde von der Wissenschaftsforschung erst am Rande zur Kenntnis genommen. Die Beiträge machen deutlich, wieviele Apparaturen, Operationsschritte, Entscheidungen und Eingriffe involviert sind, bis vor unseren Augen jene Bilder entstehen, deren Perfektion unmittelbare Sichtbarkeit suggeriert. Faktisch sind diese Bilder aber keine Abbilder, sondern visuell realisierte theoretische Modelle bzw. Datenverdichtungen. Ähnlich wie man wissenschaftliche Texte mit dem Werkzeug der Literaturtheorie analysieren kann, bietet es sich an, wissenschaftliche Bilder mit dem Instrumentarium der Kunstwissenschaft auf ihre Funktion und formale Qualität hin zu untersuchen, gerade auch im Vergleich und im Unterschied zum künstlerischen Bild."
